InkDojo Terms of Use
Last updated: September 10, 2026
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") set out the conditions for using the smartphone app "InkDojo" (the "App") provided by Kotonoa ("we", "us"). By using the App, or by purchasing a paid plan, you are deemed to have agreed to these Terms.
1. What we provide
The App is for learning kanji, including stroke order and guided tracing practice. Some features and levels are available for free; other features and levels are available through a paid plan (subscription). The features and content we provide may change without notice as we improve the App.
2. Accounts and data
No account registration is required to use the App. Your learning progress and settings are stored on your device. You are responsible for managing your device and for creating and keeping backup files. See the App's Privacy Policy for details.
3. Fees and subscriptions
The paid plan (Premium) is offered as a monthly plan and an annual plan, and we may offer a free trial of a certain length to new customers. Both are billed through the respective store's billing system. The specific price, trial length, and eligibility follow what is shown on the purchase screen and in the store. Prices may change in the future; changed prices will apply after notice.
4. Automatic renewal
Unless you cancel before the end of the current billing period (as determined by the store, normally at least 24 hours before the period ends), your subscription renews automatically for the same period at the same price, and the charge is billed to your store account.
5. Free trial
If a free trial is offered, your subscription automatically converts to a paid subscription and billing begins unless you cancel before the trial period ends (on the App Store, at least 24 hours before it ends; on Google Play, at any time during the trial). You can cancel the trial from the store's subscription settings. Any unused portion of a free trial period may be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
6. Cancellation
You can cancel your subscription at any time from the subscription settings in Google Play or the App Store. Cancellation takes effect from the next renewal, and you can continue to use the subscription until the end of the current billing period. We cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf.
7. Refunds
Purchases are processed by the stores (Google Play / App Store). Refunds follow each store's refund policy. For billing inquiries (for example, a purchase that has not been applied), please contact [email protected] and include your Support ID, shown under Settings → Support info in the App (tap to copy). If your store also gave you an order number, please include that as well; the App Store does not issue one during a free trial. Because we do not hold purchasers' names or email addresses, verification and investigation are carried out using the Support ID.
8. Minors
If you are a minor, you must obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before using the App or making a purchase. By making a purchase, you represent that you are an adult or that you have obtained the consent of a parent or guardian.
9. Intellectual property
The rights to the App and to its UI, programs, and original content belong to us or to their legitimate rights holders. The App uses KanjiVG for kanji glyph and stroke-order data, KANJIDIC2 for readings and related data, and JMdict/EDICT for the English translations of example words, each under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license. Details of sources and licenses are shown on the "Credits & Licenses" screen inside the App. You may not copy or redistribute the App beyond the scope of private use. This restriction on copying and redistribution applies to the parts in which we hold our own rights (programs, UI, design, text, original illustrations, and the like). It does not restrict any use of the data derived from KanjiVG, KANJIDIC2 and JMdict/EDICT that is permitted under the applicable Creative Commons license (CC BY-SA).
10. Prohibited conduct
You must not do any of the following: Reverse engineer, modify, or analyze the App beyond what the law permits. Copy, redistribute, or resell the App or its content without authorization — this does not apply to the kanji and example-word data derived from KanjiVG, KANJIDIC2 and JMdict/EDICT, which you may use, adapt and redistribute as the CC BY-SA license permits (see section 9). Interfere with the operation of the service, gain unauthorized access, or improperly circumvent billing. Use the App in violation of laws or public order and morals.
11. Data handling and backups
Learning data is stored on your device and is deleted when the App is uninstalled. You are responsible for keeping and restoring any backup files you export yourself. The restore feature is provided as is. Our liability for loss or corruption of data is governed by Section 13 (Limitation of liability).
12. Disclaimer of warranties
We make no warranty as to the reliability, completeness, accuracy, usefulness, or fitness for a particular purpose of the App, of the teaching materials and content provided through the App, or of any information you obtain through the App.
13. Limitation of liability
We are liable only for damages actually and directly incurred by you due to causes attributable to us. Our liability is capped at the amount equal to one month of usage fees as of the time the damage occurred, and we are exempt from any amount beyond that. This does not apply where we have acted with intent or gross negligence, or to rights granted to consumers by the Consumer Contract Act of Japan or other mandatory laws.
14. Changes, suspension, and termination of the service
We may change, suspend, or terminate features or services of the App. If a paid feature is terminated, its handling will follow applicable law.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms when features or services change, when laws are amended, or when we otherwise consider it necessary. When we do, we will post the revised Terms on this page and on our website and update the "Last updated" date. The revised Terms take effect when posted. By continuing to use the App after a revision, you are deemed to have agreed to the revised Terms.
16. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute arising in connection with the service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court in the first instance. This does not limit any rights granted to consumers by the Consumer Contract Act of Japan or other mandatory laws.
